About Maggie's Place
A Village Designed for Everyday Life
Maggie’s Place at Colonial Village is a special place designed to enhance the lives of our residents. In addition to five, single story cottage-style homes nestled within beautifully landscaped grounds, residents can stroll down our common “Main Street” where they can explore sensory gardens, a walking path with benches, water features and other gathering places. All of this revolves around a beautiful, vibrant and welcoming outdoor patio and clubhouse.
The clubhouse is where residents are encouraged to be in community with each other. Residents can experience group classes, meet with family and friends, and even get their hair styled. There is also a living room with a fireplace, exercise room, crafts classroom, dining/coffee area, family kitchen, spa and a library/music area.
Our village is truly unique and sets us apart. Those living with memory issues deserve the chance to live in a place they can call “home,” and not just a typical room in a care facility. Our community and our village allow our residents to explore life to the best of their ability in a safe, supporting and stimulating environment.
A Home Where Family Takes Care of Family
Maggie’s Place at Colonial Village is also unique in how we care for our residents. The inspiration for Maggie’s Place came from our own experiences in caring for our aging loved ones. We knew we wanted to create a caring community where family really does take care of family. Our staff will take that approach with each and every resident. Our village environment encourages actual family members to visit and naturally participate in the lives of their loved ones. And for spouses who may not need memory support, they can easily live at Colonial Village right next door.
In our extensive research on the appropriate care for our residents, we will implement the Positive Approach to Care technique from Teepa Snow, a well-renowned expert in clinical memory care. With Teepa’s approach, proper training, and the home-like environment, our residents can live their lives with meaning and purpose.
Maggie Edith Pearl Jensen (1880-1974)
The Inspiration for Better Memory Support
In case you were wondering, Maggie’s Place is indeed named after a real person. For 40 years, Maggie Edith Pearl Jensen (1880-1974) cared for people through two hotels, a café, and by renting out sleeping rooms in her Iowa home. At 93-years-old, Maggie moved into an old house that was converted to a nursing home. Unfortunately, this facility was lacking so Maggie’s family was inspired to build newer, more modern accommodations for seniors throughout the Midwest. Maggie’s Place at Colonial Village will continue to honor that commitment.
